HYCA OUTREACH SESSIONS

We organise and deliver community outreach campaigns, promoting simple public health messages, such as NHS Winter wellness messages, Covid 19 awareness and vaccines uptake, and early cancer diagnosis promotion.

 

We engage residents in their homes, on the high streets, shops, train stations and places of worship. 

HYCA SOCIAL AND WARM HUB

The most popular programme is the Weekly HYCA Social/Warm Hub which brings families especially those who are lonely and socially excluded together to enjoy traditional games and hot meals, make new friends and receive advice and information on financial help and health education.

During the winter months we engage them in conversations about keeping warm, eating well, getting all booster and flu vaccines and sign posting them to financial assistance.

HEALTH EDUCATION-FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS

  • We deliver health education on common diseases in our community such as diabetes, hypertension, cancers, and also deliver healthy eating and weight management sessions as well mental health programmes.

  • Our programmes and activities are informed by extensive research, based on the most current Public Health information, facts, and data. We have reached at least 700 black Africans from over 80 homes.

  • All our programmes are delivered and facilitated by Black African health professionals including Doctors, GPs and nurses, ably supported by trained, experienced and skilled staff and volunteers.

HYCA HEALTH CHECKS
With Nightingale Nurses Association UK (NNA)

 

We organise Health Checks facilitated by Nightingale Nurses Association UK supported by our in-house Doctors and GPs. This is done in collaboration with NHS Northwest London and Healthy Harrow.

Typically residents check their blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and get advice from our health professionals.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS (F&F)
SOCIAL INCLUSION ACTIVITIES: Beach and celebration events.

The Charity's social wing Family and Friends organises 3 big social events in a year to bring people together, to enjoy and meet new friends and family members. We aim to improve mental health, isolation and loneliness.

We also support members in times of need for example bereavements and during celebrations.

Each event is an opportunity to talk informally about out health and well-being.
